Fuzzy Math?
Supervisor's salaries
According to the Second Class Township Code (section 606), a township supervisor's salary for a township the size of East Cocalico is capped at $2,500. per year. From their 2009 budget (on their web site) we have:

Last year in their 2008 Budget (not on their web site), the budgeted salaries were just slightly higher:

The actual expenditures from the 2008 Audit (not on their web site):

One possible explanation of the higher figure for the supervisor's salaries may come from a vote at their meeting of 10/18/06 (the 4th item under "Township Manager" on page 4):
Meeting Minutes, October 18, 2006
The regularly scheduled meeting of the East Cocalico Township Board of Supervisors was called to order at
7:30 p.m. in the Social Hall of the Reamstown Fire Company, 12 West Church St., Reamstown, PA, by the
Chairman, Douglas Mackley. The meeting site was changed to accommodate an expected larger turnout of
residents than normal for the meeting.

TOWNSHIP MANAGER:
Act 101 of 2006 (State Law) provides for reimbursement of Township Supervisors’ wages not employed by the
Township for attending Township-related meetings during working hours and allows for up to 8 hours a day for
attendance at conventions/meetings/schools/institutes, etc. After deliberation, Douglas Mackley made a
motion, seconded by Alan Fry, to establish a policy to reimburse total lost wages during working hours, per Act
101, effective 9/5/06. Chairman Mackley asked if there were any questions or comments. There were none.
Motion carried.

Does this extra reimbursement account for the difference between the salary limit of $2,500. and the apparent $10,000. budgeted for each supervisor?
